Hole in the Wall

CN77xx

(Last update April 11, 2006 )

General.  This is up a paved forest Road south of Hiway 101.  It gives easy access to the CN77/CN78 grid line.  The delorme maps for this area are not particularly good, and if it is cloudy you can get turned around very easily.

Driving instructions.  Go west of Port Angeles and turn south on the road opposite Klahowya Campground.    Go ½ mile to FR 29.  Go two miles and then left at the forks.  After a mile the road goes to a single lane with frequent pullouts on alternating sides.    The road does not flatten out for 5 ½ miles.  At 8.7 you come to an intersection - take either fork - the roads join about 100 yards ahead.  At nine miles the altitude is 3000'.  You go into CN77 at about ten miles.  I was there in 2005 and camped abut a half mile north of the hole in the wall in CN78.
